The reason for the above problems is often due to the equipment that the company uses, which varies considerably. At the low end, this can be a portable machine (similar to those that you can rent from your local store), up to van-mounted equipment. Most companies machines cannot produce steam at a high enough temperature (typically between 100-200 degrees F) or have insufficient suction power (to suck back the dirty fluids). Because of this, most companies use chemical detergents on your carpet to try to break down the stains. Unfortunately, most of this detergent ends up remaining in your carpet or, worse, gets smeared in with the original stain.
